I flew to Norfolk Island with Air New Zealand from Sydney. It was approx. 2.5 hour flight from Sydney. You need a passport as you leave from the international terminal in Sydney (it’s considered a domestic flight coming home so you don’t need to worry about the 100 ml liquids and gels rule- which is very handy with all tax free alcohol shopping you can do and bring it back in your carry on!) Air New Zealand staff were very helpful at check in.
I stayed at the Paradise Hotel and Resort Norfolk Island. This hotel was good, and is close to the township – you do need a car though to get into the township (not an issue as most of the accommodations around the island include car hire). Rooms are very spacious, and were undergoing a refurbishment.
We enjoyed lots of sightseeing on this beautiful island some highlights included a Fish Fry dinner- usually at Captain Cooks lookout in the national park including a beautiful 2 course dinner and island dancing. We visit Norfolk Island Cemetery, a Convict Tour, did some bush walking and saw Mutiny on the Bounty – a quality re-enactment by the locals, most of whom are direct descendants.
The locals are so friendly and very knowledgeable on the islands history and their family history in relation to it. They are very keen to show off their island and enjoy having a chat over a drink at the pub.
