North Island, New Zealand

I flew to Auckland with Air New Zealand. Seats were comfortable, meals are tasty if you have the Works or Works Deluxe ticket (meals are included on those) and plenty of different movies etc to keep you occupied. I love their in air safety videos always at another level.

In Auckland I stayed at The Langham Auckland. It has spacious rooms, with old world décor so is feels and is very luxurious.

The Hobbiton Movie Set tour is fabulous, you don’t need to be a fan of the movies to enjoy the tour. There is plenty to see with 44 different hobbit holes in the area. The tour includes lots of behind the scenes stories and finishes up with a complimentary drink in the Green Dragon Pub which was also purposefully built for the movies. The drinks in the pub are brewed especially for them.

In Rotorua I stayed at the Sudima Hotel which is in a fantastic location directly across from Lake Rotorua, within walking distance to the Polynesian Day Spa and downtown Rotorua. Rooms are very spacious.

Te Puia Rotorua – is in the geothermal valley on the south side of Rotorua. Is home to the Pohutu geyser which can reach heights of up to 30metres. We also enjoyed a Maori Hangi and cultural show here which makes for a very enjoyable evening.

Waitomo Glow worm Caves Tour – a guided caves walk which finishes with a boat ride in the caves through the glowworm cavern….it looks like fairy lights all over the cave.

For our last night back in Auckland we stayed at Skycity which is attached to the casino, walking distance to shops and restaurants and the Auckland Viaduct. Rooms are spacious and well appointed.
