I travelled to Portland, Oregon and Seattle Washington in March 2015.
We flew with Hawaiian Airlines. They have GREAT luggage allowance of 2 x 32kgs bags each person, complimentary meal service (even on domestic flights), but no special meals or meal choice. Entertainment wasn’t great as movies weren’t new releases.
In Portland I stayed at The Nines Hotel a fabulous 5 star hotel with amazing character and charm, built in and old department store. It is in a great location.
We did a bike ride around Portland city stopping at the food carts – this was a great way to see the city and try some awesome food; the winery areas are a must. We also went crabbing on the Oregon Coast. Mt Hood has skiing all year round. Be sure to go and have a quirky breakfast at Tasty and Alder in Portland, and the seafood in Newport, Oregon is amazing!
In Seattle we stayed at the Hotel Vintage. This is a great boutique hotel located in the city centre with newly renovated, large rooms. Another great boutique hotel in Seattle is ‘Inn at the Market’ right on Pike St Market, overlooking the harbour.
We did a food tour at Pike St Markets, a winery tour, visit the Space Needle and the Dale Chihuly Glass Museum (amazing highlight for me!), plus Starbucks Reserve and Roastery. For a fabulous dining experience go to Aqua by El Gaucho, Seattle.
