I travelled on Etihad via Abu Dhabi to Rome and then a domestic flight on Alitalia to Naples. The check-in was great, but we did get there early. Service and food on board was fine. On the way home I had a 3.5 hour connection time in Abu Dhabi so we paid to use the Al Reem Lounge by Plaza Premium (cost approx $60pp) which was worth every cent to relax and have a shower!
I had pre-arranged transfers from Naples to Positano and we were met at Naples Airport by the driver. Because the road was closed we had to go the long way over the mountains, but the views were quite spectacular. Arriving into Positano is absolutely breathtaking, the jewel in the crown.
The accommodation I chose was the Hotel Marincanto, it was perfect with a beautiful big deck and infinity pool. Breakfast here was amazing. The location itself was fantastic also as they have private stairs to the beach, it was steep though and there were plenty of them.
Positano is fabulous to just wine and dine and enjoy the views, we found a few great restaurants that I can tell you about.
We travelled all around the Amalfi Coast visiting the Isle of Capri, Sorrento, Ravello and the town of Amalfi, come and see me for some inside advice on how to get around and do this. Each place is unique and each town would suit different travellers for different reasons.
After 4 fabulous nights we hired a private driver who took us to Naples via Pompeii to visit the ancient ruins. The driver waited 2 hours for us with our luggage and dropped us to the train station, this was a great way to see this area without wasting a whole day out of our Positano stay.
From Naples we took the train to Rome to join a Trafalgar tour of Italy, but more about that later……….
